Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1 Submit Assignment

1)    Pick an opportunity you would like to pursue.
·       Healthcare entities / medical facilities and practices in the United States don't have united/central electronic database with medical history for patients.
2) Clearly state the opportunity you have identified, including the who, what, why.
·       The who: Hospitals, , people - patients.
·       The what: They are unable to store medical record information because there is no such central system- database exist in the US.
·       The why: Competition among healthcare entities and unwillingness to share information between each other.
3) This is your 'hypothesis' about the opportunity.
·       Testing the who:
    • In my opinion everyone in my ‘who’ shares the need and I believe having such database would increase convenience for people - patients significantly as well as for the healthcare entities.
·       Testing the what:
    • Do all healthcare entities have this issue or just  some?
    • Do all patients have this issue or just  some (most likely all, but some just don't see what would be an advantage of having such system as they don't know how this would be look like with having such database)
    • Are there database system out there that can be easily developed and used for this purpose? ( yes, system on blockchain principle p2p offer enough security and actively used in England and Germany )
·       Testing the why: Not everyone will perceive their need the same way; here, I'd like you to test the boundaries of the 'why' -- for the people who have the need you have identified, what are the range of whys that they offer? Does the "why" you have identified hold for everyone? For the example above, maybe some hospitals will see their need rooted in logistics, maybe they'll blame government bureaucracy, maybe they'll blame the nurses and doctors.
    • Well, I'm not aware if united organization or association of hospitals, or healthcare exist in the US that can sponsor creation of such database but ideally I think it should be subsidized by government at least partially. Other option might be if private company creates such system and lease it for all healthcare entities.
4) Interview Questions
“There is an issue in the VA today with how its patients are treated. In the last few years, patients have been experiencing long waits (up to 70 days) for routine treatment and medical attention under the current system. The legal required waiting period to be seen for medical treatment in the U.S. is set at 30 days. These long wait times can be attributed to outdated software programs and technology that makes it time consuming to file patients’ information.”
·       Questions
o   Who do you think would benefit the most from having such system database?
o   Do you think this issue does exist for patients and healthcare entities both?  Why?
o   Would such system be important and necessary  to have in our life today?
o   Why do you think such system still not created and not used today in the US?
o   Would it benefit you as an individual (or doctor/medical worker) and how?

5) Summarize what you find. Given your interviews, what do you know about the opportunity that you didn't know before?
·       Summary
o   Based off of the interviews, most of the interviewees agreed that this would be a positive and helpful tool for both patients and healthcare entities.
§  For the who, two of the interviewees brought up a good point that not only the patients and healthcare entities would be positively impacted, but also doctors, medical workers, and most important children and relatives as this database will provide an opportunity to keep track of genetic diseases and helps to prevent some of them. Some interviewers emphasized importance of privacy such information from private marketing  companies, and even government itself as they don't want it to be used against them in the future.
§  All interviewees believed that this is a matter of near future and it will be created and used in a short period of time in the United States.
