“Elon Musk” by Ashlee Vance

1)
What Surprised me the Most?

His life goal - alleviate our dependence on oil and make us a multi-planetary species. Also, amount of challenges Musk faced, how he overcame them and didn’t give up. His capability to set everything aside and focus on his big goal and use all resources to the fullest. In addition, it is interesting comparison - "Apple-like design" "Silicon Valley revolutioner" Iron man, Thomas Edison..
What about Musk did I most admire?
I admire that Musk combines in himself both inventor and businessman. Businessman who is willing to go all in, who is chasing his dream for better humanization. I admire his passion to bring improvements and change into our lives, bring progress to human race, and invent new technologies that benefit everyone. As we get used to the life as we are now the world is changing, however not as fast as it can be with all powerful and well-established oil industry. I think he has a great long-term vision into the future.
It is a great example to show us how dream comes true and nothing impossible.
What about Musk did I least admire?
It may be actually a good thing, but his workaholism is something that I admire the least. But in reality, if I had such passion and ability, I would maybe do the same thing as there is only this much hours given in our life and it’s too short and so limited.
Did Musk encounter adversity and failure?
As every entrepreneur, Musk did encounter a lot of failures in a business and personal life as well. His business consists of many ups and downs. Tesla and Space X had so many challenged and were so close of being shut down. For example, in 2008 when he run out of cash..

2) What competencies did I notice Musk exhibited?
Unlike other wealthy people, other billionaires, even after becoming super rich, Musk still have this passion and spark to make progress and establish better life for human. After he sold paypal, he could easily just relax and become more passive investor and work less, however he is still working 7 days a week almost 24/7
3) Part that was confusing:
I first thought it was confusing, but I realized it is more educating: How Musk shows his behavior and attitude. He does things that most people even would not think of, if being him. How he celebrated his birthday in castle playing hide and seek all night confused me, as well as he smoking weed during interview and his plan to build 3d underground tunnels in LA for cars also a bit confusing.
4) 2 questions to Musk:
first I would ask - How does he make his decision? – following same category questions: How does he make decision in stressful situations and how does he deal with stress overall.  how many of his decisions he would say were successful – percentagewise.

Second would be How does he generate his entrepreneur/business ideas? a few examples.

5) Musk's opinion of hard work:
I would say, super hard working 80-120hrs per week with passion and thinking that anything is achievable. I had experience working hard on some projects and not sleeping normal during several days - it may be bad for your body, however brain starts working differently - in a good way, better focusing on issue and making better quality decisions faster,
without a second thought and with more confidence, thinking creatively... Especially while having a business insight and doing something that you are passion about .
