Bug List

Bug List

1.     People talking too loud on public/ obnoxiously loud in public/ restaurants
It destructs a lot, inconvenient to have your own conversation with someone, These people talking too loud maybe eager to be heard or that’s their speech manner, hearing problem, or thoughtlessness.
2.     People who interrupt
You lose your thought and forget what you wanted to say or do. Then it takes time to remember what it was, and sometimes you loose it completely and can’t recover it in memory. This may happen because of someone’s unwillingness or inability to listen, maybe lack of interest, or manner of speech.
3.     Artificial ingredients and additives in almost everything
It poisons our bodies and may cause to health problems and obesity. This exist because food producing companies want to maximize their profit and using cheap artificial ingredients. Therefore, spending less money on them comparing to natural ingredients and receiving more profit.
4.     Waiting in the grocery store checkout line because cashier working super slow or having too long conversation with other customer
It makes other people wait longer and creates larger queue. At first it looked like neglecting to other customers, but as a second thought this rarely happen in larger cities, so maybe because of small town or slow workers...
5.     Spending too much time in smartphones while with friends.
When you meet with friends at the restaurant/bar and someone  or all sitting in their phones. There are different whys and some of them are: workaholism, phone/social media addiction, emergency, etc... but overall it is sad that people became so depended on cellphones.
6.     Unwanted marketing call when you are on second line and putting your conversation on hold to answer.
It is a waste of time and may distract from something else that is more important (almost everything is more important than these calls) This exist because someone wants to sell something or scam people. Although, I added my number to national and state don’t call list, I’m still receiving these calls as they are spoofing and using real people local phone numbers. A few times I replied and hung up on them, then I decided to call back to remove my number from their list, but real person replied who said he/she never called me.
7.     Friend who spoiled movie ending
This reveals the scenario and reduces interest. It maybe because these people think this is funny but true reason may be that someone actually spoiled it to them, and they think it’s unfair and do it to you.
8.     Running late to somewhere where I actually get up early to be on time.
Coincidence, force majeure circumstances. Also, realizing there is more time than usual, I begin spreading to different things while preparing.
9.     Careless / asleep drivers at intersection on the exit of my subdivision.
It happens a lot, especially in Sarasota and I think whole state of Florida, when other driver begins to move off the line toward your direction. Also, on the exit of my subdivision, when there is huge line of cars and first car starts moving only after 5+ seconds after light goes green, sometimes half cars miss that and have to wait another round. It happens because other drivers don’t pay attention and destructed by something, in most cases drivers are on phone call or texting.
10.  Having tasteless food in expensive restaurants
It’s is pricy and you think should be tasty by default, which is wrong, and sometimes much less expensive places have better food.
11.  Iphone's battery capacity and software
They make iphones lighter and thinner and don’t increase battery capacity and even if they do insignificantly, phone consumes more energy, and usage time remains the same as it was. They’ve changed their course of business. Comparing to what they used to have before: “to create something innovative,” now it is: “to sell more products.” Software has more and more glitches every time you update it, and it forces people to buy new phones, although previous generation phone is perfectly fine, and there are only light improvements made.
12.  Having allergy on synthetic fiber clothes and material
It causes rash and redness.
13.  Being put on hold for too long when they said it’s going to be a brief hold
Most of customers support centers now are outsourced, and sometimes located in different countries. On top of it there may be lack of employees
14.  Difficulty adjusting water temperature and low water flow in some hotels.
It’s inconvenient and takes more time than usual.
15.   Dark wood flooring in my bedrooms.
Although it was installed just recently, it is very inconvenient and unpractical. There are spots and hairs literally next day after cleaning/vacuuming/steaming.
16.  Inability to access online bank account when you are overseas while US phone number is not working and only option to verify ID is to send text message to it, and there is no other way to verify identity.
17.  Artificial snow in ski resorts
When it’s warm and melting and there is snow it is more slippery and becomes icy. It’s much harder to control skis and keep desired direction.
18.  Overcomplicated rules for passwords
This probably creates better security, but overall you have to add symbols, numbers, special characters, or create totally new password for specific website which is fine when you are using one browser on your own computer to access it and have password saved, but when you need to access it from different browser or different computer, it creates extra complications remembering what your password is and most likely leads to a reset which is inconvenient.
19.  People with bad manners in public places restaurants/stores/malls who burp or fart and say "excuse me."
It is still rude, inappropriate, and disrespectful.
20.  Writing what bugs me in everyday life
While writing about things that bugs me, it reminds about imperfections of our surrounding, creating sad feelings because mostly these are things that we have no control over and we can do nothing except change our vision and perception, attempting to take them in a positive way, to not to be nervous and don't let these things disappoint us.

That took me a while to write this list completely. It is interesting assignment that can show what are some common bugs in our everyday life, and most important, question ourself why they do exist. Questioning is a great practice, and in my opinion can clear a lot and provides better understanding and helps finding right solution (sometimes wrong one but rare). It reminds me a technique of five whys that helps to get to a root cause. In addition, I also find helpful Descartes square -decision making technique. It is based on four questions: (What if this happens? What if this doesn’t happen? What will happen if this happens? What won’t happen if this doesn’t happen?) Overall, it was not easy to write this list in one time, as I had to return to it to change something and add another "bugs." I even think that would be easier to write about something that makes you happy instead... My complaints mostly associated with things I have no control over.  However, I’m very picky and pay a lot attention to details, especially when it comes to business. I few years ago, when I had more time, I  actually enjoyed criticizing and giving reviews on things and explain what disappoints me. In addition, I found it sometimes difficult to answer immediately why the bug exists. Some of them I even researched deeper to figure out truly why. Some bugs I wrote and removed because decided they are really not bugs. Some of them maybe are still just things as they are.

  1. Hi Vilgelm,
I thought your bug list was very specific and relatable. While some of your bugs were universal like #3 and #14, others were more specific to our area such as #1 being specific to Floridians. My favorite point of yours that also bugs me is being put on hold too long. Inconveniences like these happen to everyone but somehow slipped my mind when asked to think about what actually bugs me. Finally, I understand why this assignment could have seemed pessimistic, but with the perspective of learning why things bug you, I believe it can be an overall positive learning experience. In the future, it really is about your perspective.
